Montreal, October 1970. The family of 12-year-old Manon is about to break up: she and her little brother Mimi will be placed in foster care.

Manon is outraged. Inspired by current political events, she hatches a plan and takes an old woman hostage, to claim the right to choose her future. With the help of her cousins Martin and Denis, she leaves town with Mimi and the old lady, determined to find a safe haven where they can all be free and happy. Based on her novel Salut mon roi mongol, Nicole Bélanger wrote the screenplay in collaboration with Luc Picard, who also directed the movie. Filming, which began on November 1, 2016, took place over a 35-day period in Montreal and Montérégie. Produced by Luc Châtelain and Stéphanie Pages of Écho Média, the film’s cast includes well-known actors and actresses, as well as promising young actors. Supporting the newcomers are Maude Laurendeau, Julie Ménard, Martin Desgagné, Jean-François Boudreault, Sophie Cadieux, Emmanuel Charest and Bobby Beshro. Milya Corbeil-Gauvreau is Manon (12), Anthony Bouchard her little brother Mimi (5), Alexis Guay and Henri Picard their cousins Denis (9) and Martin (15).
